Shojo Beat Magazine

I miss the good old days of shojo beat magazine when you could discover something new for a few dollars. It was delightful discovering a new series to read in my first issue in the mid-2000s Kaze Hikaru, Baby and Me, Nana, Vampire Knight and many other shoujo manga which would go on to have lasting legacies in Japanese shojo manga made their mark on the English language market. I used to love picking up new issues with all the different series. It was an upset for many shojo manga fans when the anthology met its demise at the end of the 2000s. I still see people complaining too shojo beat on social media about a desire to return to the anthology every now and again. It’s fun to look back on the anthology with fondness. It’s challenging discovering new shojo as a reader nowadays. It was a simpler time than what came a decade later with the Trump administration. I sincerely hope we can return to that time and place and recapture the magic of when things were fun again.
